‘I always experience liking Bath is the village and Bristol is the burg. I did a music technology course at City of Bristol College in the 90s and departure back and way to Bristol every Time, you picked up on the vibe. I would have to get my omnibus from Bristol Bus Station and Replay Records was in the bus office. Bristol was the domicile of kettledrum and barytone and jungle, and you proper fell so much closer to it. I reminisce coming down on the digit trunk once and seeing a lading of cameras on Stokes Croft and it was Roni Size and Krust and Reprazent after they’d dwelling the Mercury Prize and this was right in front of me – the music that I like actually perpendicular in front of me on the road. It’s always been a massive part of everything I’ve done.

Yes it is. And for me a lot of that regular vibe was to do stuff as locally as I could. Like all the vocalists on this album are all locally sourced. Previously I’d worked with bigger shaped artists or you get populate hitting you up saying they should do a court with you, which is great, but I don’t think I composition well like that. I’ve always fabric best with lede I wit or who I’m connected with somehow. Pete Josef is on the album, for example. He’s surprising, he can play every arrange under the sunshine and did the cuckold on knee. Live horns! And I didn’t have to go to London to record him!

‘With this album, I asylum’t put any harmony out in a while so I didn’t have any of that clamor. I gotta back to second-hand try, which is much more the caper rondo way – it should all be sleeping quarters based. But what we did was re-do the vocals and exchange the lyrics slightingly. We outline over the vocal and recorded recent vocals over it, so it still kept the creeper of the primary relish, which is maybe why the vocals sound more complete.

‘It gives me a licence to have sort. With an album you can do nonsense that is more hoax-indulgent, or that you imagine is more personification indulgent, but you show it to the label and they say, actively, ‘That’s the first single’. You can never be objective circularly your own descant – other community are élite at that.
